Just a quick post about my latest commission...
...belly dancing costume.
...belly dancing costume.
This is a work-in-progress, and the design is a collaboration of sorts between the instructor and myself. The above picture is the prototype I came up, sans embellishments at this point, and there are 5 more of the same to make.
The first layer is a fuchsia chiffon with silver sparkles, laid over a tan satiny jersey underskirt. There are 6 panels to the overskirt, which are attached to a gathered sash around the hips.
A ready-made bra was covered with the fuchsia chiffon and then an additional gathered panel layered across the top half of the cups.

I started sewing at 9 years old. Yes, I was that child who cut old table cloths to make floral printed dresses for her stuffed animals. Two decades later, I quit a steady career in teaching to start my own business in the apparel industry. It's been a couple more decades and I can't seem to stop (yes, I have tried). So with a sense of joyous resignation, I continue to create custom clothing and patterns, and find time to teach drafting and sewing at my studio and online.

Very nice. Glad to find your blog.
ReplyDeleteBleddi - how did I miss this post? I just found it! Not crazy about pink but I LOVE this outfit! Thought at first that you made your own bra too! Mum made bikinis way back in the old days - amazing. I want this outfit! But where I would wear it I dunno. Got lots of belly after 3 kids so maybe I CAN sigh up for belly dancing lessons sometime. Sell them in your etsy shop, J! You always get the funnest commissions!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Of course I want the journal! Only tried to exempt myself because must act khek-ki, mah.
